The custom avatar ticket, when used, will take you to a form where you can specify what you'd like your avatar to look like. Please don't attach the custom avatar form to a message to me, as this may cause bookkeeping problems. Just [use] the form from your inventory.
The things that can appear on a custom avatar are, due entirely to time constraints on my part, limited to artwork that already exists in the game.
The head of your avatar can be the head of any character or monster in the game.
After choosing the head, you can then pick up to three items that will be worn or held by the avatar, in whatever combination you'd like. Examples:
- Pants, hat, and weapon
- two weapons and a hat
- a hat, a weapon and a sk8board
- whatever combination makes sense.
If I can't get your avatar to look the way you want it and still be acceptable as game artwork, I'll contact you and we can work out whatever changes might need to be made in order to get it to work.
Note that in some cases, two images, or even just one, can look cooler than 3. Mr. Skullhead's avatar is a perfect example of this -- just the head and the paddle.
Also, if you'd like your avatar to just be one of the existing monster
pictures, that's fine, though I'd ask you to not request any of the rare or
boss monsters, just to avoid spoiling any surprises for new players. Also
also, I reserve the right to reject ideas that are offensive, inappropriate,
or simply don't work in the context of the game.
If you want something that isn't a regular stick figure or an in-game monster,
feel free to request it. We've gotten a lot of really clever submissions that
don't precisely fit the above criterion. Know, however, that if your request
requires us to draw new artwork, it's almost certain to be rejected. Same
deal if you request any animation at all.
If you provide a link to your own (or somebody else's) attempt at an avatar,
please do not be surprised or upset if I revise it to make it fit in better
with the style of the game's artwork. Be aware that avatars must be exactly
60 pixels wide and exactly 100 pixels tall, and in GIF format. Submitted
avatars with stuff that bleeds off the edge of this 60x100 space will likely
be rejected, as will animations that make no sense or are really busy. Please
don't spend a lot of time working on something if rejection is likely to send
your soul into a rainy spiral of miasmic depression.
Avatar forms may only be submitted during the first week of every month. I
will make every effort to make a couple of "acceptability reviews" during that
week, rejecting requests that are not going to work, and giving folks a chance
to edit their requests. At the end of that first week, I will make one final
pass through, and reject any requests that are still unacceptable -- those
requesters will have to wait till the next month to try again. This will give
me the remainder of the month to complete the acceptable avatar requests,
instead of constantly being inundated with unacceptable avatar re-submissions.
This new system rewards folks who make reasonable requests, and hopefully will
work out better for everyone. If not, y'all can punch me in the stomach.
