Combat
Throughout your career as an adventurer of Loathing, you'll fight many monsters. Just like you, monsters have a level, which determines the amount of damage they can dish out, and the amount they can take.

In combat, your Muscle determines your chances of hitting a monster with your weapon. Your weapon's power, as well as your level relative to the monster's, determines how much damage you do if you connect.

Your Moxie determines your chances of dodging the monster's blows.

If you lose the fight, you'll be Beaten Up for a few turns, and your stats will temporarily be reduced by 50%. If you win, you'll gain stats, and possibly receive some meat and/or one or more items from your slain enemy.

Or, if you're a non-violent type, not your slain enemy, but your unconscious enemy who will probably be okay with some medical attention.
